Knoppmyth 5.5 "Bone Marrow" is a huge advancement

When I got up this morning, I went through all the upgrade guides, and change logs, and did my backups. Then I upgraded from R5f27 to 5.5, and I am much happier already. I don't have it working 100% yet, and there were some glitches, but in all its up and seems to be far superior to the previous version.
The first thing I did was add /usr/local/bin to the custom backup list in /myth/backup, so that it would record my RRD modifications. I have a non-standard HD setup, and I have modified RRD to reflect those changes, such as recording disk read and writes for the arrays as well as the solo boot drive. While I mention that, I also realized recently that I am not as afraid of Perl as I thought I was. When I think of Perl, I generally only ever think of RegExs, but as I was modifying my RRD scripts last week I realized the .pl extension meant I was working in Perl. The awesome thing about that is that I was adding new functions and such into the script, not really realizing that I was teaching myself a language that I don't know. I then did the backup from the command line, just to make sure that any errors printed their output so I could fix them. Next I booted from the CD, tested the media, and installed. After the installation, I reset my fstab, and booted in, and setup all my channels through Schedules Direct. I did have an error where it was only showing me static on every channel, and it didn't have any of my recordings available, but I think that might have been due to the fact that I forgot to change the /etc/my.conf to use an internal network rather than 127.0.0.1, which is required to use external front-ends. Anyway, I reconfigured that and did a restore at the same time, and the system is working great now. I don't yet have my MCE remote working, though the setup claims that it should work right away. I will look into that more over time, but I am glad that it is working again, and it appears that mythstream is working now where it never worked before. I will continue to post more as I have more to post. I am considering moving the system to HD capable, and depending on a few other factors that are out of my control, I might consider moving to Uverse in the future, which would mean that I have a bit of work to do on the system.
